1. Taking care of your jewellery
1.1 Pearls
Pearls are naturally soft and can easily scratch and/or be damaged. So, when it comes to caring for your pearl jewellery, kindly follow the below care guidelines:
- It is recommended that any pearl products are stored separately, away from other jewellery and/or other items to ensure that the pearls are not scratched or damaged accidentally.
- If required, pearls can be wiped down with a soft damp cloth (not wet!) after wear. Do not use any soap or cleaning solutions.
- Never submerge your jewellery in water or cleaning solution as these may damage the pearls and/or other components.
- Avoid heat such as hair dryers, irons and curlers.
- Avoid contact with cosmetics, hair spray, body lotions, perfumes and other chemicals that can damage your pearls.
- Remove before exercising.
1.2 Stringing materials
A number of our pearl products (such as necklaces and bracelets) are strung using high quality silk thread, beading wire and/or beading elastic.
It is important to regularly inspect the thread, wire and/or elastic to ensure that there is no fraying or damage visible. Should you notice any damage or fraying, it is of utmost importance to ensure that the item is taken to a reputable pearl jeweller for restringing. You can also contact Pearls & Frills for a quote in this regard.
Although our silk thread is pre-stretched, it is normal for thread to stretch somewhat upon wearing.
Do not pull or tug. Silk thread, beading wire and elastic are very delicate and can break. In addidition, pulling and tugging can result in the delicate silk fibres or fibres in the beading wire to untwist which may result in excessive stretching.
1.3 Glass
We often make use of glass beads in our products. Glass is fragile and can easily break and/or shatter. Take utmost care not to drop any glass products to prevent accidental damage.
Pearls & Frills cannot be held responsible or liable for any damage to glass products after sales.
1.4 Sterling silver
Due to its composition, Sterling Silver (S925) tarnishes when it comes in contact with certain elements such as air, sunlight, high moisture levels, water/salt water, persperation and/or chemicals.
Some of our Sterling Silver products have an anti-tarnish coating to reduce the tarnishing, or in some cases Argentium Silver is used that is also less prone to tarnishing. The use of these components are dependent on availability.
It is best to keep Sterling Silver products in an airtight container/bag to minimse tarnish. Should the Sterling Silver tarnish, a special jewellery cleaning cloth can be used to rub the sterling silver and remove the tarnish.
Do not submerge any of our products in jewellery cleaning solution as this may damage the other components used in the jewellery item.
